Todd Duane Miller

Las Vegas Photographer Todd Duane Miller has wanderlust. Just mention the words, "Road Trip" to this young photographer, and you'll see his mind rev with the possibilities. He himself states that he feels his love for old classic cars, coupled with the thought of the open road, could be uniquely an American experience. "I found it puzzling that my European classmates thought it was strange that I liked to photograph older cars. They just didn't get it.", Todd muses. But as he was experimenting with the High Dynamic Range technique, he found himself drawn to old and dusty car lots, lusting after the iconic beauty's of the American Roadway. These lots were lit with eerie and spot filled lights, even in the middle of the night, making it perfect for this particular technique. Sometimes Miller just happened upon the perfect "for sale" car in a driveway, or in a dirt lot. And like the inertia of a perfect road trip, one shot became two, and two became a portfolio. Miller's new and award winning exhibit, For Sale, expertly couples this photographers' HDR mastery with the symbol of what the American Road Trip means. The images hold together like a story, somehow tugging on the iconic American ideal that THE special car could perhaps transport any ordinary person into a place where anything is possible. Nostalgic, yet sexy, these rich images will make even jaded, middle aged viewers yearn for the open road.

Todd Duane Miller, an army brat as a child, ended up his adolescence in Wood River, Illinois. When his Dad died suddenly when he was 15, life started veering off course. His saving grace was finding a little manual 35mm camera, along with a set of Time/Life books in his Dad's stuff. Constantly prodded by his mom, Todd became obsessed with picture taking, and for the next several years would pour through those books, relishing anything that would help him become a better photographer, even taking advice from the guys at the film developing lab. Years later, after a series of empty, laborious jobs, Todd moved to Las Vegas with the love of his life, looking for a new start. He enrolled at CSN, and everything gelled at once for him. Todd is currently in his last stretch of education, an expert in HDR techniques, and always has that next trip planned in which he can expand his ever impressive portfolio.
